Varina's Vinter Vonderland!
Tap Varina for a link to the decklist !
This deck, though a style of my own, I give a massive amount of credit to EDHREC, since I had found this deck when I initially decided to build Varina. I wanted to do something outside of her normal play-style, and Zombieless sounded perfect. But, it still needed something more. I had mulled over the deck for a few weeks, tossed some ideas back and forth, and ultimately decided to change it a bit more to a personal preference. I toyed with different ideas from Zombieless to creatureless, and ultimately the deck just evolved into the most disgusting deck I’ve built to date. (Mind you, I’ve only been playing Magic since 2016, and EDH only about 2 years.)
The deck has control, tempo, reaction, and the ability to flood the board and /or win the game in an instant. There are a number of wincons, from Demonic Consultation and Thassa’s Oracle, to Approach of the Second Sun, and many ways to stay safe and react to other players, whether it be 1v1 or a multiplayer game. It's versatile to say the least, and it's a bunch of fun to play or watch pop off.
My favorite card in this deck is Elixir of Immortality. Yes, Elixir. It’s absolutely
amazing in this deck, and serves a great purpose so long as it survives. However, if it gets exiled from the game, the deck no longer has the epic ability of shuffling its graveyard into the library. But this is where the fun begins...once Elixir gets exiled, your graveyard is now Zombie token fodder for Varina’s ability. So long as you have the open mana, you can exile 2 cards from your graveyard to create a tapped 2/2 Zombie token, as many times as you can. This little trick is even more successful if you manage to pull it off after a board wipe and have or can flash Force of Virtue out.
All in all, this deck is a fun one, it can hold its own against an infinite combo, tempo, and aggro decks, and it's always fun to play. I hope you've enjoyed this little peek into the deck, and I hope to have more to share with you soon! Let me know what you think in the comments below!
